Now all we had to do was kit Hygge out as simply and practically as possible. Aside from the basics, cutlery, cooking utensils, food, bedding, there are many and varied goodies out there you can buy and the temptations are great. Eighteen months on and these are the few things that have made life easier and simpler and haven't cost a fortune.
Our top 11 can't do withouts
1. Campingaz, Bistro 2
We rarely eat out and if we do it is normally for breakfast. With that in mind we purchased an extra gas stove this fits very neatly into the back storage - Garry loves to cook alfresco.
Many people (not us) love the bbq and we have noticed there are many sizes and types now available for you barbecuers.
2. Ridge Monkey
We discovered the wonders of a Ridge Monkey (it looks like a sandwich maker but you use it on the hob)- designed for fishermen - its an amazing piece of kit for cooking. The handles are removable and the utensils included fit neatly inside.
3. Slow Cooker
( only for electric hook-up) but wonderful to have a lovely meal ready when you get back after a long day walking.
4. A four cup stove top cafetière-wonderful when there isn't a coffee shop for miles.
5. Camping Toaster - quicker than the grill and saves on gas
6. Electric Travel Kettle (for plug in stays) - we have got a kettle for the hob as well
7. Vango Drive away kit ( for when we take the awning) It was hilarious trying to reverse Hygge back onto the awning without it! (See Early learning Bog)
8. Pup Tent -easy to set up and great for storage when we don't take the awning. Some sites charge extra for these so check out beforehand
9. A Vango Airer - nothing worse than trying to dry yourself on a towel still damp from the day before and it means you can get the washing dry on those longer trips. On the subject of towels - I use a Hammam from Walton. It is 100% cotton and they are amazing as they work really well as a towel and dry easily - what is even more interesting they are also advertised as a throw.
10. A 'Duck Soup' mat for the sliding side door, great for wet muddy feet and easy to wash.
11. A mattress Topper - just adds that extra comfort over the little gaps between the seats on the rock and roll bed.
Clothing
Not included in the above but worth mentioning are Quick dry trousers. We went mad and bought ourselves a pair of Rohan quick dry walking trousers (not cheap, we keep an eye out for the sales) but great when you are not wanting to pack a massive amount of clothing. For us this is all part of living life's simple pleasures. For me as a woman I have noticed the less clothing choice I have in a morning the more mentally uncluttered I feel.
VIP (very important purchases)
A CARBON MONOXIDE MONITOR
A FIRE EXTINGUISHER
A FIRE BLANKET
These simple items can save lives.
